Creating a certificate

Creating a certificate

The easiest way to create a certificate is the wizard built into Passcreator. It walks you through each step. You need a paid Apple Developer account to create Pass Type IDs and certificates. If you do not have one, enroll at developer.apple.com/enroll.

Use the wizard

Open Settings and then the certificate section. Click Add or update certificate, then Create a new certificate. Follow the wizard to create a Pass Type ID and its certificate.

The full steps

If you prefer to do it by hand, the process has three parts. You create a Pass Type ID in the Apple Developer Portal, download a certificate signing request from Passcreator, and use it to create the certificate.

  1. Log in to the Apple Developer Portal and open Identifiers.
  2. Set the filter at the top right to Pass Type IDs, then click the plus sign to create one.
  3. Select Pass Type IDs and click Continue.
  4. Enter a description and an identifier. Use a reverse domain name, so for example.com use pass.com.example.my-name. Click Continue, then Register.
  5. Open the Pass Type ID you created and click the button to create a certificate, then Continue.
  6. Apple asks for a certificate signing request. Download it from Passcreator under the certificate section, Create or update certificate, then Download CSR file. Your browser saves a file named upload-to-apple.csr.
  7. Upload that file in the Apple Developer Portal and click Continue. Apple creates the certificate. Click Download to get a file named pass.cer.
  8. Back in Passcreator, choose Create a new certificate, select the pass.cer file, and click Save.

Passcreator confirms that your certificate is saved.
